Question: Is it possible for TRAVEL AGENTS to get a long-term visa for Australia or New Zealand?

Answer: Your question is somewhat unclear. If you're asking if travel agents can get anything other than a tourist visa for you, the answer is no. Any visa that a travel agent is able to get for you is very easy to get by yourself without any fees apart from the visa fee itself.

Travel agents cannot get skilled work visas for you. Only you, or licensed migration agents can do that and migration agents are unnecessary, very expensive and a complete waste of money.

Question: Europe travel question: Can I book flights with Ryanair on my New Zealand passport?
A friend of mine recently went to Europe and her travel agent asked for her "EU passport" to book her internal Ryanair flights (although she flew on her NZ passport for other flights).. Now I'm unsure as to whether they allow people outside of Europe to book? Thanks in advance :)

Answer: As long as your passport allows you to enter the country you fly to, or you have the visa needed, there should not be any difficulties.
I do not fly with Ryanair, (does not come to my nearest airport) but I fly with EasyJet and they never mentioned anything about nationalities apart that it is your obligation to have the right visa.

Go to the site of Ryanair there should be an e-mail address and ask if you do not find info on the site.
You can check the need for visa on this site:

Question: Booking Flights Online or with a Travel Agent?
I was just wondering if anyone new if booking online was cheaper than booking through a travel agent? I am talking about long flights eg. to New Zealand (so not ryainair, easyjet etc)

Answer: I'm guessing you're from the UK (like me) so I'll answer from that perspective.

Travel agents in the UK rarely know anything about long haul destinations. They're there for your average adults and 2.4 children travelling to Majorca where that agent might have actually been.

But when it comes to far away destinations, the chances are that the agent knows less than you. My local travel agent - an independent, not a chain, and allegedly ranked one of the best in the UK - was not able to help with my plans for Latin America. All they managed to do was look up an airfare online which I later bought at home for £500 instead of the £700 they wanted to charge - for the same fare basis. Everything else was read out of generic brochures, not from personal knowledge.

In such situations the Internet is far more likely to be useful. You can search and play with dates to get cheap fares (eg midweek is cheaper than weekends). You can read real reviews from real people who have actually stayed at the hotel you're thinking of.

Is it more hassle? It can be. But you know exactly what you're getting and you're not paying somebody to mess up your plans for you. If you want a tailor-made holiday where you know what's happening and accept doing some research then book itself. If you want a pre-packaged where everything is (hopefully) sorted for you then pay the extra and get an agent to do it for you.

Question: Flying to thailand from New zealand. Good Price?
where can i find the a cheaper price. I have been quoted $1600. Is there any other place i can go to. I contacted flightcentre but they have a poor customer service and they didnt bother to reply my query for 2 weeks. in the mean time the prices soared up. my worst ever experience with this travel agent. the reps attitude was just rude and abnoxious. she should be a debt collector.

Answer: Try checking out farecompare.com, it compares all the websites that sell airline tickets. Or go to a local travel agency in your town that specializes in flights to Thailand, you may be able to find a better deal there.

Question: Travel Agent in NZ?
Hi I am interested in becoming a travel agent in New Zealand. I am looking to do a corresspodance course to gain some extra skills. I would like to know, if this job pays well, and if my travel experience is enough to get me into the industry? I have travelled to Australia, Bali, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Do you think this is enough to get a foot in the door?

Answer: I think House Of Travel is the top travel Agent in NZ..and yes, you do need to do a correspondence course or the hands on travel course - which is meant to be fantastic! From what I've heard; if you are a guy and have sales experience, you will have no trouble getting a job in the industry as there are a shortage of guys -also if you are good at sales and have great people skills you will do really well. I think at the end of the day..it's all about a can do attitude...go for it!

Question: Traveling to Canada?
I have asked a similer question before but I need to ask it again as its gone, and I need an updated answer.

My dad and I are going to Canada next year at Christmas time. Before we go toi a travel agent (we cant yet anyway), I was wondering what the best route would be.

We would depart from Brisbane, Australia.

I know that Air Canada fly a direct, non stop route from Sydney to Vancouver, but its a 17 hour flight. There are also options going through Hawaii, New Zealand and Fiji. We DONT want to travel through the US (except for Hawaii)

But we have heard that Asia is also a good stopping point to North America. But with so many cities, airlines and combonations to choose from, we dont know where we would like to go through.

Price doesnt bother us, providing it is within $200 pp more expensive than the cheapest way.

So what would you do or where have you gone through from Australia to Canada WITHOUT going through the USA (my dad hates the airports there)

Answer: Hi there, I also live in Brisbane and I'm going to Canada next year with my daughter. We've decided to go with JAL and fly to Tokyo about a nine hour flight, have a few days in Japan which we both love (been there before) then fly from Tokyo to Vancouver which also is about nine hours flying. And we are returning the same way via Japan. Even the Travel Agent thinks that this is a great way. Have a think about it!
