New Zealand Travel Flights Travel questions and answers
Thinking of traveling to Dunedin New Zealand? Check out the Dunedin New Zealand vacation website and Travel Journal.
Question: How do you get flights to travel around Australia / New Zealand for 15 months?
From the UK, when airlines don't seem to take bookings more then a 6 months to a year in advance.
So how do most people do this then? Get a one way to Oz then a one way back?
Answer: You can get a return ticket which is probably the cheapest thing to do. But you need to get one that will be open for 2 years, meaning you can stay for up to 2 years. Any travel agency will fix it up for you.
Question: What are the various intercity flight operators in New Zealand?
I'll be travelling to New Zealand in December. Want to know are there any flight operators besides Air New Zealand that one can travel from? I have to take a flight from north island to south island. Also which would be more economical?
Answer: As far as I know, there aren't any low cost carriers which operate for domestic flights. Air Pacific suspended their services in August and Freedom Air offers only flights to Australia.
Question: Are laptops and cameras allowed on flights to the US from New Zealand?
Travelling to US and want to know if I can still bring my laptop computer and a book to read.
Answer: So far yes, but things keep changing...go to the TSA (transportation security administration) webstie at www.tsa.gov
for the most updated information before you fly.
Question: Air fares to New Zealand?
Is it more expensive to travel to New Zealand (flight only) to be there over christmas and the new year than if you were to go before or after that? And how far in advance would you have to book the flight to get it cheaper?
Answer: You can use this: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar
and this: http://www.cheapflights.co.uk
... to get a picture of airfares for a season or month. Once settled on dates, shop for best price also with http://www.bookingbuddy.com and http://travel.kelkoo.co.uk/c-172201-flights.html ... Among these, I think you will find the absolute best offer.
Question: Any tips of things to do and see in New Zealand during August?
Me and a mate are planning a trip to new zealand for about 3 weeks in august. We want to do some snowboarding for week or so and then want to see some of the country and do some other things. Any tips on things to do or see, where to do them as well as the best places to go for good boarding. Tips for cheap flights, accomodation and travel would be great :)
Answer: Nasty weather that time of year BRRRRR cold take only winter clothes . but saying that you can have a fantastic holiday especially that you like to do the snow thing. If you want a look at some of NZ how about a flight in to wellington the ferry to picton then a hire car to Queenstown down the West coast through Wanaka, This is a great trip and you will see Fox Glacier and Franze Joseph. and have a big choice of snow activities. Not sure where you are from but take a look at Virgin. jet star. qantas and air New Zealand has they all have specials that keep coming out from flying from Australia. If you want to have a flight within NEw Zealand look at grabaseat.co.nz
Question: Can I accrue US Air frequent flyer points if I travel economy on Air New Zealand? ?
The Air New Zealand web site seems to say that they don't give their Airpoints for economy flights so I am wondering if I won't get points using my US Air card either.
Answer: According to the page linked below (which was found, of all places, on the US Airways website), Air New Zealand flights in economy/coach only earn US Airways miles in certain fare classes. You'll definitely want to check and see whether the fare class you've purchased (the first letter of the fare code issued to that ticket) matches what is on the list.
Question: Cheap flights from South East Asia to New Zealand?
hey im looking to travel from inside south east asia to New Zeland as the second leg of my travels, having troubles finding cheap flights though so any recommendations would be apreciated.
i've been looking at flying from indonesia, vietnam, thailand, malaysia, phillipines so i'm completely flexible. (as is my time frame)
Answer: Airasia.com is BRILLIANT! The fares vary from £5 to £200 for internal flights depending on how far in advance you book and whether you manage to get it in the sales. Also throughout south east asia at most train stations etc they have an office for you to pop in if you have any queries etc and they all speak english.
Flights are available to australia, vietnam, brunei, malaysia, singapore, vietnam, indonesia, thailand, phillapines etc etc but not direct to new zealand. However you could then get to new zealand from australia.
Question: Open return flight prices to New Zealand?
Hi there,
I'm travelling to New Zealand. Or making plans to anyway.
I was wondering if anyone had done so before, and if so, if they knew any good airlines. (I don't mind paying a bit extra for a more comfortable flight as it's so long)
Also, what I would be looking (approximately - I know it depends on seasons/airlines/etc) to spend on an open return??
Answer: I would recommend either Air New Zealand or Qantas. In general for long flights, it's good to upgrade your seat if possible. Just having a little more leg room can make a huge difference.
Question: What are the chances of getting a cheap last minute flight from UK to New Zealand at Christmas?
I've been looking for flights recently so i can go out to NZ over the christmas period to see my parents but their all too expensive at the moment, would it be worth waiting and jumping on a last minute offer near the time as i have no strict travel plans to keep?
Answer: Zero. Not only do prices get more expensive in the lead up to x-mas, there are so many antipodeans also trying to get home for the summer that there is a distinct lack of availability, there probably wont even be any last minute offers. Christmas and summer are the high-season when it comes to traveling down-under. Depending on how much time you have off, you are better off traveling in the "shoulder season", ie before about the 10th of December and after about the 15th of January depending on the airline (check with your travel agent)
Question: Travelling to New Zealand. I know it is a very long flight. Could someone plan a route for me.?
I would prefer to only be in flight for around 5-6 hours, having 2-3 day breaks in some interesting counties. Then I would like to return to England using another route.
Answer: Depending on which airline you fly with your will have a choice of stopovers - Air New Zealand means you could visit Singapore and Sydney the way to NZ and LA on your return for a few days each place. BA and Quantas means a stop in Bangkok there and Hong Kong on the way back. Fly Emirates and you could stay in Dubai. Malaysian Airlines means a stopover in Kuala Lumur and Penang. Air Canada and you could visit Hawaii and Toronto
You need to go see a travel agent (Trailfinders or Flight Centre etc) to see what you options are for the dates you want to go and what your budget allows.
Been a few times and went round world in 2 weeks - Hong Kong (with side trip to Macau), Singapore, Sydney, LA and back for a weekend in London - fun but exhausting
