Question: Travel insurance on a working holiday visa to new zealand?
Im going to New Zealand with my boyfriend in November and was wondering if anybody knew if we would need travel insurance as we are going on a working holiday visa and hoping to get a permenant visa eventually?

Answer: It is usually not a requirement but some countries insist that you do have "Travel Insurance" that covers health. It's wise to have it, in case your luggage goes missing, you get robbed or fall sick or have an accident. So many things can go wrong! However, I would never advise getting your insurance through a "Tour Operator" or "Travel Agent" as they overcharge and make big profit. The same applies to "Supermarket" insurance. It can be convenient but is expensive. The cheapest insurance is through companies that are dedicated to "Travel Insurance" only. You usually find them advertising in Underground Trains.

Question: Can I buy insurance for travel costs if my parents die?
My parents live in my home country (New Zealand) and I am an expat, living in Germany.
Where can I find insurance for travel costs, in the event of their death? I know they will die one day, and last-minute flights around the world can very expensive.
Alternatively, does anybody know if some airlines still offer special rates for family members in mourning?

Answer: Sorry to tell you this but you cannot get insurance based on the life of another (unless there is 'insurable interest', ie the relationship between a husband and wife where there is a financial dependency on each other).

In cold hard terms if your parents die and you are an adult it wouldn't affect your future finances since you are not dependent on them, so you cannot insure them.

What they could do is take out life insurance on themselves and leave you as the beneficiary, but it would take a few days to come through once they die so it wouldn't really solve your problem.

What you could try is talking with an airline now about your concerns and offering to pay them for a ticket now that you could use at any future date at short notice providing that seats were available.

I have never heard of airlines offering special rates for family members that were not in the armed forces

Question: I don't understand how to go about my travel insurance...?
I am travelling to New Zealand this summer to snowboard for a month. I am, however, only 17 years old so I am classed as a child. I am meeting my boyfriend, who is 21, out there. I've been looking for quotes on the internet but they all require me to enter how many adults I need to cover, but seeing as he's going out 2 months before me, I don't need to have the 2months extra insurance, and it will result me paying more than I have to. Help?

Answer: This is very informative web site for insurance details & you can find all insurance plans and insurance company in your area:

Question: Travel Insurance Policy - Personal Accident Cover?
Hiya!

I'm looking at travel insurance to cover me for a 12 month trip to New Zealand; that also covers for extreme sports such as bungee jumping & sky diving.

I've found one that looks pretty good, and it does say it covers for Sky diving, which includes personal liability cover. However, excludes personal accident cover.
Can anyone explain to me what this means?
I understand personal accident is when something happens to you, e.g. loss of a limb, that was unexpected. Is that right?
What, exactly, would I be covered for if I wasn't covered for personal accident cover?

I've tried to find simple definitions but to be honest, it's all just jargon to me!

Answer: If I were you, I would make a list of questions and contact the agent to explain in detail exactly what you will be paying and what will and will not be covered for. Insurance Companies have a way of listing Terms and Conditions that cover them rather than you.

Question: Can you help me pick out low priced Traveler's Insurance from USA?
I am traveling to New Zealand from the USA and need to have Traveler's Insurance for my Holiday Visa. Can anyone suggest a low priced insurance company?

Answer: Try Squaremouth. It's a comparison site that has a sort by price feature. Enter zero as your trip cost as this will cut out the cancellation benefit and reduce the cost. Once on the price page the site shows you the medical cover for each plan, look for the minimum amount you need for your visa and pay the cheapest price.

Question: Round the world travel?
Would you have tips, advice, recommendation of places to visit and hostels (looking for clean, safe, good location) in Sydney, New Zealand and Fiji? In New Zealand I have heard of the magic bus. What is the best accommodation? And what about Fiji? What travel agency have you booked your flight with and what about travel insurance and budget? How did you manage your finances?

Answer: Did it in 2005, but did not visit Sydney (been before) or Fuji. But New Zealand is great, with such varied scenery. I stayed mostly in YHAs, some of which are quite good. The one in Waitomo (near the caves) is based on chalets with en-suite facilities. The YMCA in Christchurch is almost luxurious. Best accommodation is, of course, a 5 star hotel if you can afford it! We met people who used the Magic Bus and it worked well for them. You need to phone in advance (24hrs) to be picked up, but if there's space, you can probably get on. I booked with a travel agency that let me down by not telling me that a connection had changed, so I wouldn't recommend them. Make sure you book with a reliable, pro-active one because airlines do change their schedule and you could be booking months ahead for your flights.
Finances: I had a good body wallet that hung round my neck and took a credit card to pay for the big bills and restaurants that take card. No travellers' cheques as they are so expensive. Nationwide credit card offers the best deal and you can withdraw cash if you're prepared to pay a bit on top. If you have online banking you can arrange to pay your credit card from any internet point from another account. Or you could do it by direct debit. If you book your hotel in advance, pay it before you depart or make sure they will take a credit card. That way you don't have to take too much cash on you.
As for insurance, some will do up to 2 months or longer worldwide for a bit extra. You have to shop around online for the best current deals.

Question: My boyfriend needs international health insurance as we are going traveling soon, can anyone help?
My boyfriend is American and needs health insurance, not for the States but for the rest of the world, mostly New Zealand. Can anyone tell us the best for the cheapest price?

Answer: He should talk to a representative of the insurance company that carries his health insurance now. Most of them have traveller's insurance as well.
