Question: What are the benefits of travel insurance for domestic travel in Australia?
I am travelling to Syndey this weeked for a holiday from Brisbane. Should I get travel insurance? I have private health insurance. I don't think it is necessary. I have had travel insurance before but this was for overseas travel.

Answer: One major thing that your health insurance won't cover though is problems with the airline/flight. For example, one trip from Melbourne - Gold Coast couldn't take off because of flooding on the Gold Coast. All that the airline could offer was a flight 2 days later or a credit. My travel insurance picked up the difference (about $350 extra) to change to a different airline and fly into Brisbane later that day.

Other things to consider, if you get sick while you're away or even before you are due to go and you can't fly on the day you have booked, if you don't give 24 hours notice you won't be able to change your date on discounted tickets and you then have to forfeit your ticket and buy a new one for when you are well enough. Travel insurance would cover this.

Mind you, there are many people out there who don't take insurance for domestic trips, I guess it comes down to whether you have to money to cover it if something goes wrong....

Question: What is best world cover travel insurance?
I stay in UK and at end of month will travel to China and need to get travel insurance, probably annual in case I go off again somewhere in a years time. Previously I was with Direct Travel Insurance, they seem to have good cover and are reasonable, but do you know a better one? Pray tell!

Answer: Im with Boots,

annual, worldwide.

£125 for a family policy.

Doesnt include winter sports, but can be added.

Does cover me for various medical do-das, which some policy's wouldnt look at.

Enjoy China, should be a great trip.

Question: How do you find good travel insurance?
We're traveling to England in May - I've never bought travel insurance and want to know how we find good/reliable insurance? Thanks.

Answer: There are some good travel insurance companies. Get ones that pay your expenses or pay you in cash. Dont get ones that make you take another trip or give you a voucher to travel again with them.
I only buy insurance if the trip is WAY more than I can afford to lose.
Read the fine print of the policies before you purchase.

Question: I'm going to Mozambique in December and travel insurance sufficient to cover chance of missing my plane home?
Basicly, if I miss my flight home due to hold ups on my 1000km journey back to the airport in Johannesburg I need insurance sufficient to pay for a replacement flight.

Answer: Travel protection insurance is available to cover delays in travel -- but must be purchased before you leave the US (also, you must be a US resident to purchase this coverage from a US-based company).

The premium is determined based on the total cost of your trip and will cover missed connections, lost luggage, delays and medical expenses.

Many suppliers carry policies, but it's best to read carefully the policy provisions, especially the exclusions to insure you know what the plan covers.

Remember, if it looks like you won't make it back to Johannesburg before the return flight departs, to contact the airline and cancel your ticket. Once the plane departs, the ticket will have no value and you will not be able to get a credit toward a new ticket.

Question: Do I get my travel insurance before or after I book my flight?
I was planning on getting it afterwards but noticed that it covers costs if your trip is cancelled so would this mean I have to get the insurance first?

Answer: I tend to book flights/ accommodation first so i know exactly when and if i am defiantly going then book insurance after

Question: When you travel overseas, do you automatically purchase travel insurance?
Will you have peace of mind when purchasing travel insurance?

Answer: It's up to you of course but decent medical cover should give you peace of mind. The biggest problem abroad could be medical evacuation, which is the process of getting you back to your local hospital in the event something bad happens. A good place to compare products for international travel insurance is squaremouth.

Question: Travel insurance?
I have recently bee diagnosed with copd and asthma-I got in touch with a few travel insurance companies and now feel vicitmised because of being ill - i am now having a job getting insurance Can anyone help with this or come accross the same problem- thanks

Answer: It would depend upon whether or not you are medically stable and able to travel right now. It would also depend upon when you first put money down on your trip. You can go to www.tripinsurancestore.com for tons of information on pre-existing medical conditions and how they are or are not covered. They also have on-line chat and a toll free number to call; where you actually get to talk to a real person.

Question: Booked flights and hotel in my maiden name - do i need to book travel insurance in maiden name too?
I married last yr however my passport is still in my maiden name. I have therefore booked a trip to new york under my maiden name. I am now arranging travel insurance but am not sure if i need to book this in my maiden name too or married name? I dont want to give the insurance company any reason to void it!

My passport isn't invalid as it is not a legal requirement to change your name when married. I have checked this out with the passport office

Answer: Changing name is not a requirement. However, if you're travel as Jane Doe then you should have insurance under Jane Doe, otherwise if some thing happened, you claim as Jane Smith then they say there isn't any traveler under that name. Does that make sense? You know insurance company will try anything to get out of paying.
