Question: Travel insurance coverage that includes full rental car insurance? Why pay for rental car insurance?
I travel often but have never bought travel insurance. I always rent cars and buy the full insurance coverage from the rental. I don't own a car or any auto insurance. I am somewhat familar with non-owner insurance options and the claimed coverage from the credit card companies. But why buy two insurance coverage when one can pay for both?

Do you know of travel insurance coverage that includes rental car insurance?

Answer: You can't get Liability coverage. You have to get it from the rental car agency.

You can get a CDW if you live in the US or Canada. You have 2 choices:

1) You can get a trip cancellation plan that includes a CDW. Most plans exclude OR, NY and TX residents. You have to be taking a trip with fixed travel dates

2) You can get a stand alone CDW if you live in the US or Canada except Washington State.

I don't think she does anymore since she just got another car and I think she just switched over her insurance from the one to the other....

Answer: Deosn't she have an insurance on it? She can ask the agent to cover you, too.

Question: What insurance is needed for rental car in California?
My son leaves Ireland tomorrow Sat 17th Nov to fly to San Diego. He has rented a car to drive to Seattle - everything appears to be arranged. But I want to check he has adequate car insurance that is needed/required? He is over 25 years and has normal Travel Insurance.

Answer: Many credit card companies will cover insurance requirements if you use their credit card to rent the car. However, your son should have checked with his credit card carrier before he left. Once he gets to the counter in the U.S. it will not be practical to check. And since he's already left Ireland (since today is Sunday 11/18) that probably won't be helpful information for your son. However, manybe someone else reading this will be helped by this information.

A comparison to whats already out there is good too..

Question: Car Rental Insurance - Which is necessary h to buy if not US citizen?
I am not a US citizen., but will be renting a car for 2 weeks from Payless. Will need advice as to what is the necessary car insurance to buy if :-

1. The accident is not due to my fault ?
2. If it is due to my fault.

I have travel insurance which covers me for medical insurance due to accident but not the other party , and also has a deductible for car rental.

Answer: I assume you are coming into the USA. If so you can decline cover with your car rental company, however, I would get it if you don't have it elsewhere.

You will be offered two types of insurance:
1 - CDW or collision damage waiver
2 - 3rd party liability

Your credit card company should provide collision damage waiver insurance which will cover your damage to your car only.

That leaves you with liability insurance, you should get this from your car rental company as it is usually not offered anywhere else.

Your travel insurance should cover you for medical for more info research policies at http://www.squaremouth.co.uk and http://www.squaremouth.com.

Question: Do i need car insurance when travelling from the US to canada and back?
im travelling from washington state to canada next week, do i need vehicle insurance to get there and back??

im travelling from washington state to canada next week by car and at this point i dont have car insurance and likely can't afford the stupid down payment on insurance before then, but i HAVE to go to canada. are they going to check me at the border???

Answer: I'd be more worried about being able to pay for gas and the cost of jail, fines and court if you get caught. No insurance means if you hit someone and kill them, how is that family to get compensation? Everyone else pays for your non-compliance.

Dont do it, get a train or a bus.

Question: How can my elderly parents from NZ get car insurance for 6mnth UK visit?
My parents will be 74 & 75 when they come over in April 09. They want to buy a car and travel around for 6 months. Any suggestions for how to get them insurance appreciated

Answer: Personally, I would buy a second car and arrange the insurance through a local agent. That way you will be able to pick the cover which best suits your parents requirements. Ensure your parents bring their driving licences and insurance documents (to prove they have cover in their home country)

Question: If i wanted insurance is it cheaper to do it all through the same people? (life, travel, home and car insurance)

Answer: If you want cheap, try going through an insurance broker. A broker works with lots of companies, instead of just one, and knows which ones offer the lowest rates in the different areas you mention. The broker can get the best price for the coverage that’s right for you. It’s like that commercial: “When (blanks) compete, you win.” When health insurance companies compete, you win, too. Also, since the broker wants to stay in business and gain referrals, he or she will point you only to reputable companies.

To find a broker in your area, log on to a site like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and complete the “request a quote” form. The form will go to a broker in your area who will contact you. The quote is free, and you are not obligated to buy. Good luck!

Question: I hold car insurance from independant. Would the converage be good if I travel to Canada on my personal vehicle?

Answer: If you have a standard car policy, the coverage territory is the US, Canada & US possessions & territories. That means you are covered in Canada. Read your policy, it will tell you. Also, most car policies will provide minimum limits per the laws of the state or province you are travelling in. This means that if you have lower limits than the minimum in a Canadian province, your policy will provide the additional limits, without making any changes to the policy & without any additional premium. What you'll have to do though is phone independant & get a Canadian ID card. This ID card is a nonresident ID card & is written in both English & French. The company should give it to you for the time you'll be travelling there. You'll not be required to show it at the border, but you'll be required to show it if you are pulled over or involved in an accident. If you don't have it, you might be in a lot of trouble. independant should be able to explain this to you. If they don't know this, if I were you I would phone an independent agent to get quotes & change your insurance. I might beat independants prices all the time, so they are not always the best rate. Also, if you have an indendent agent in your area, they will be able to help you with claims & other issues & you can actually go to an office & speak to someone in person.

Question: Waht to ask car insurance company when discussing repairs to my car after accident.?
I was involved i car accident with the other driver taking the blame. My car is damaged and the other drivers insurance company will be contacting me regarding my car. What should I ask them? I am planning to ask about a hire car, who will repair my car or declare it a write off, can I claim for travel expenses whilst without my car and also is it okay to continu driving my damaged car before it is assessed by them. Is there anything else I should ask?

Answer: Year, make , model, extent and area of damage? The other party's insurance should pay for a rental...best not to drive the car if the damage causes it to be unsafe or can cause further damage. Total loss is usually when repairs would exceed 70-80 percent of actual value of the car.
Discuss what repairs need to be done, any parts other than OEM that will be used, any betterment involved on wearable items, guarantee on repairs, qualities and expertise of the repair shop, diminished value if your state allows that, any possible long term or post-repair problems that may crop up and need to be supplemented.
If answers are not acceptable, you may want to go through your own insurance and let them go after the other party.
