Question: Which travel site provides the best vacation/flight/hotel deals?
I am taking my family on a trip in Aug and we are planning on stopping in NYC for one night. Any reccomendations on affordable hotels I should check out, or a website that has good deals?

Answer: I have checked every site on the web (or at least most of the big ones anyway) and the two best I have found are:
http://www.hotwire.com/index.jsp?sid=S20&bid=B256273&kid=K0000001&mid=M01
http://travel.priceline.com/default.asp?rdr=1&session_key=420011AC5C0011AC20080330164841651bc0943022
With Priceline you have to bid but you can get some incredible prices. I got a 4 star in NYC last November for $125/night (The normal price was $450/night). Check them out and you'll see what I mean.

Question: My parents just bought a vacation deal through "Travel to Go" travel agency...is this a scam?
My parents recently made a purchase with the travel agency "Travel to Go" has anyone delt with this company before? It sounds a little shady and I just don't want them to get hurt.

Answer: BAD BAD BAD. Your parents actually just agreed to a timeshare agreement. i am sorry to have to tell you that, but it is true. If you look at the VERY BOTTOM of the Travel To Go page, there is TS Exchanges. (Time Share Exchanges)
That is what your parents agreed to. I am not sure as to what they agreed to, but it was most likely a time share, for houses that liquidators can't sell.

I am very sorry for this mishap for you and your parents, but I want to give a bit of advice to give to your parents for the future:
When booking travel, even though they may seem more expensive, THE TRUSTED AND LARGER BRAND NAMES ARE BEST!!!!!! I.E.: jetBlue, Travelocity, Expedia, and even travel agencies. While booking yourself, with all things seperate (hotels, tickets, airfare, etc.) is better, using sites that are THAT shady arent good. They are not even advertised, and for that reason. They show up on Google and Yahoo, and scam people into these things. I am not sure about the airfare and such or what was booked, but this IS a site for selling timeshares. Sorry this had t happen to you guys, but if you really want to give them a great vacay, get them to a travel agent, or have them ask you next time when using the internet sittes to book, so that they don't make any mistakes or mishaps. Again, booking speperately and with larger brand names is the best route. Sorry and I hope this helps!!!

I've tried google searching and using a variety of travel websites, but I cannot find anything reasonable. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to find good travel deals? We prefer to book a bit in advance, as we don't want to wait until the last minute.

Question: What is the best way to search for ground travel fares, for vacation trips?
I'm considering doing ground travel to a place not too far away from here. Air travel is too expensive (especially since my trip won't be too far into the future) so I'm considering going by train or even by bus (train is preferred.)

How do I go about searching for travel fare? I'm hoping there is a site similar to Priceline or Travelocity that deals with ground travel of this sort.

DETAILS: I'm hoping to travel a round-trip vacation between Portland, Oregon and Calgary, Alberta (Canada, of course). I'll be travelling sometime this month.

Once again, I'm looking for help with finding places to get trainfare (or anything with ground travel) be it a Priceline-similar site or anything. I just need a way to find and compare prices for travelfare. Any hints, ideas, suggestions? Any help is much appreciated!

Answer: Some of the sites I found are:

http://www.amtrak.com/ (doubt if this caters to your route)

Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad http://www.dmerail.com

Grand Canyon Railway http://www.thetrain.com

Union Pacific http://www.up.com

I appreciate none of these might suit your purpose, but funnily I was not able to find a search engine similar to that for flights
